Day 6 was court day. This ended up being the most stressful day for me- the day I actually felt some anxiety. I guess I was feeling like this was the final thing between us and our baby. We were scheduled for court at 4:30 and to leave our hotel at 3 with one other family from the same agency as us. Being in the middle of the day we didn't feel like we had much time to do a whole lot so we just spent the morning packing up our stuff since we had to leave at 8 the next morning for the airport. About 11- we went out for some lunch. We got lunch then returned to our hotel to get ready to leave. We met downstairs at promptly 3 o clock ;-) and made the hour drive to the courthouse. The distance wasn't all that far but the traffic was awful! And let's just say the style of driving is quite different than I am used to! We got to the courthouse to find a lot of other families from another agency there (if I looked at the paper right, I think there were 22 total adoption cases that day!).
We were told they were running late because a previous family took longer than usual and we wouldn't start our two cases (scheduled for 4:30) until 5. 5 turned into around 6 and we were finally ready for our two cases. The other family went before us which made us the very last family of the day. The process itself was very easy, light-hearted, full of humor, stress less, and more of a formality. We were in the courtroom for a total of MAYBE 10 minutes and at least half of that time was translation time. We were asked where in Texas we lived? We already had two kids, did we have enough time and energy for another one? Did our kids know about the adoption? Were they excited? Raising kids comes with some obstacles, were we ready and prepared to handle those? We had met with our son, did it go ok and did we still want to adopt him? At the end, he told us there was no reason for him to say no and he hoped we had a good and happy life with our new son. Quick, easy, painless, and done!!!! We made the long, jerky, traffic filled ride back to the hotel and then got a quick bite to eat then finished packing and weighing.
We were up early the next morning and ready to make the journey home. Ian and Kinzlee, here we come!!!
So, now what??? We are waiting on notification of preliminary approval. This usually takes around three business days but this weekend is the Lunar New Year which is a major holiday in SK so everything will be closed Thursday and Friday. If we don't have word of this by Thursday (which it is already Thursday there!) then we likely won't hear of anything until Monday. (Our agency could have gotten word of this during the night and just hasn't let us know yet.). Once we have preliminary approval, the 14 day waiting period starts. This is the process for any court decision in SK, for either party to change their decision. Once the 14 days is up, (it is my understanding it is 14 calendar days, not business days), then they will let us know we have final approval and have permission to come get our son. Once we have this news, we will leave after two days and will be there for another 7-10 days. The kids and my parents will be making the trip back with us- which we are very excited about. We feel like they will all really enjoy the city! And Parker, of course!
Thank you for your continued support and prayers. Please continue to pray for our family as we prepare for the final stages and for transistion. Pray for Parker's little heart as he is literally ripped from anything and everything that is familiar to him. Pray for Ian and Kinzlee as they will see the awful pain and grief that their brother has to go through. Pray that they will have an understanding that only Christ can give them and that there will be no confusion or doubt stirred in their little minds about the permacy (word!!??) of their family. We love you all!
